Mythic Upgrades Wiki

Eight mythic gems. Eight ways to fight.

Mythic Upgrades adds eight gems that sit on top of Netherite. None of them is simply "stronger": every set has the same base stats as Netherite, but each one carries its own ability, and choosing a gem means choosing a playstyle.

Mine them in new biomes spread across all three dimensions, forge them into ingots with Necoium, and upgrade your gear at the smithing table. In multiplayer, Necoium Share lets a group pool their abilities.

How it works

1. Find a Mythic biomeCaves in the Overworld, Rifts in the Nether, Barrens in the End.
→
2. Mine gems & NecoiumGem ores live in their biomes; Necoium is found throughout the Overworld.
→
3. Forge ingots4 gems + 4 Necoium Ingots make one Gem Ingot.
→
4. Upgrade at smithingMythic Upgrade Template + Netherite gear + Gem Ingot.
→
5. Build your setMore pieces worn = stronger ability. Swap gems any time.

World & Biomes

Mythic Upgrades adds four biomes: two cave biomes underground in the Overworld, one in the Nether and one in the outer End. Each hosts two gems, their schist stone, crystal formations and ores.

Works with big biome mods. Mythic biomes are not entered into a shared weighted pool, where they would shrink as more worldgen mods are installed. They are placed on a fixed grid that claims a set share of each dimension, so they keep the same size and frequency alongside Terralith, Biomes O' Plenty and other biome mods. Coverage and patch size can be changed in the config.

Ores

Every gem ore drops its raw gem (Fortune applies) and smelts or blasts into it as well. Silk Touch keeps the ore block.

Geodes

Each gem also forms geodes, crystal-lined hollows like amethyst geodes with a smooth basalt and calcite shell and budding crystal inside. Unlike the ores, geodes are not tied to Mythic biomes. They appear in any biome of their dimension, about once every 24 chunks.

DimensionGemsHeight
OverworldAquamarine, Citrine, Topaz, Peridot6 blocks above bedrock – Y 30
NetherRuby, SapphireY 0 – 64
The EndAmetrine, JadeY 0 – 64

Growing crystals

Budding crystal blocks work like budding amethyst. They slowly grow small, medium and large buds, then a full crystal cluster on any side facing air or water. Unlike budding amethyst, they accept bone meal, which advances one bud by one stage.

Breaking a cluster with a pickaxe drops 4 crystal shards (boosted by Fortune); any other tool gives 2. Budding blocks cannot be picked up, even with Silk Touch, so build your crystal farm where the geode is.

Progression & Crafting

Mythic gear is an upgrade on top of Netherite. Getting there takes Necoium, gems from the right biome, and one smithing template.

1. Necoium

Necoium ore generates throughout the entire Overworld between Y -64 and 16 (deepslate variant below Y -16). It is noticeably richer inside Mythic Caves, which also contain solid raw Necoium blocks embedded in the stone. Mining the ore drops Raw Necoium, which smelts into Necoium Ingots.

2. Gem Ingots

Raw gems cannot be used on their own. Combine them with Necoium into an ingot (shapeless):

3. The Mythic Upgrade Smithing Template

A single template works for every gem and every piece of gear. Like the Netherite template, one is consumed per upgrade.

4. Upgrading

At a smithing table, place the template, a Netherite tool or armor piece, and a Gem Ingot. Enchantments and trims are kept.

Swapping sets is cheap. Any Mythic item can be re-upgraded directly into another gem (for example a Ruby Chestplate into a Jade Chestplate) with just the template and the new ingot, with no need to go back to Netherite. Reaching your first set is the investment; changing playstyle afterwards is not.

Armor & Tools

Every gem gives a full set: sword, pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, and four armor pieces. Base stats equal Netherite. The difference is the ability.

How set levels work

Each armor piece adds levels to its gem's ability: Helmet 2 · Chestplate 3 · Leggings 3 · Boots 2, for a maximum of level 10 with the full set. Mixing is allowed. Two Ruby pieces and two Jade pieces give you both abilities at lower strength. All numbers below are "per level", so multiply by your level (full set = ×10).

Tool abilities trigger when you hit with any tool of that gem (sword, pickaxe, axe, shovel or hoe). They do not scale with armor.

Base stats

DurabilityMining speedEnchantabilityArmor (H/C/L/B)ToughnessKnockback res.
All Mythic gems2031 (tools)9153 / 8 / 6 / 3310%

Sapphire is the one exception: its tools deal +1 extra damage (sword 9, axe 11), fitting its role as the raw-damage gem.

Status Effects

All Mythic abilities are status effects. Armor applies them permanently (hidden, no particles), and tools apply the harmful ones to your target. You can also get them from potions and crystal shards. Values are per level.

Potions & Crystal Shards

You don't need a full armor set to use an ability. Shards and potions give temporary access, which is handy before you have the gear or when you want a second ability on top of your set.

Crystal shards (food)

Every crystal shard can be eaten, even on a full stomach. It restores 1 hunger and grants its gem's ability at level III for 1:30. Shards come from crystal clusters (see World & Biomes).

Brewing

Start from an Awkward Potion. Every potion can be extended with Redstone, strengthened with Glowstone, and turned into splash (Gunpowder) or lingering (Dragon's Breath) form.

Corrupted potions

Adding a Fermented Spider Eye turns some beneficial potions into harmful ones, meant to be thrown at enemies as splash or lingering potions:

Tip. The on-death bursts of Ice Bomb, Charged and Lethal Incubation also work when the effect comes from a potion. A lingering Charged potion over a mob farm calls down lightning on every kill.

Necoium Share

Necoium is the glue of the mod: it goes into every ingot and every template. It also has a use of its own in multiplayer: sharing abilities.

How it works

  • Eat a Necoium Carrot (6 hunger, high saturation) to get Necoium Share for 5 minutes, or drink a Necoium Share potion.
  • Everyone with Necoium Share within 30 blocks of each other is linked. Links chain: if A is near B and B is near C, all three share even if A and C are far apart.
  • For each of the eight armor abilities, the highest level anyone in the network has is given to everyone in it.
  • A group of four players wearing four different full sets means everyone gets all four abilities at level 10.
  • Pink particle streams show the active links.
  • Players on different scoreboard teams never link. Tamed animals and other creatures with the effect can join a network.
  • Borrowed effects disappear as soon as you leave the network.

Blocks

Every gem comes with a full building palette: ores, storage blocks, growable crystals, crystal building blocks and its biome's schist stone. All slabs, stairs and walls can be made on the stonecutter as well as the crafting table.

Items

Configuration

Nearly every number in the mod can be changed: ability strengths, radii, durations and biome coverage.
